Police have released the name of a woman whose dismembered body was found in a Brooklyn park Monday.

Brandy Odom, 26, of Brooklyn was identified by family members based on a tattoo, sources tell NY1.

Sources on Tuesday said that investigators discovered limbs in plastic bags in Canarsie Park, not far from where Odom's body was found there a day before.

Police said the arms and legs were recovered about a half-a-mile away from where the torso was spotted by a woman walking her dog in Canarsie Park on Monday, the Associated Press reported. Police did not say how long the body had been there.

The gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through the tightknit Brooklyn community.

"Aside from it being scary, it's a bad way to die. It's just, I feel it for her," one local resident said. "I don't know whether or not she was dismembered before she died, which would be even more painful."

Police said the torso was face-down and covered with leaves, about 15 feet from the edge of a pedestrian pathway. Sources said a hair weave and a comb were also found Tuesday. It is not clear if they are connected to the body.

The park is well-travelled and a popular place for joggers and dog walkers, who are being kept out during the investigation.

"This is a lovely park. They messed it up for the people who enjoyed it. So that's the bad thing about it," one man in the park said. "But at the end of the day, somebody did lose their loved one."

The mystery has many in the area on edge.

"Very much so because I've heard from other folks that live around here, and they are very scared, not knowing what took place, whether she was killed here or she was brought here," one woman said.

The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
