People in Brooklyn are getting in shape without breaking the bank.

Fitness instructors held free classes as part of the Brownsville Fitness Marathon Saturday.

More than 250 people signed up to participate in the event hosted by 'Shape Up NYC and the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.

Classes included Zumba, Afro-Caribbean Dance, and Cardio Kickboxing.

Training Manager, Rodney Harris, says the program offers free workout classes in all five boroughs with the goal of helping communities at risk of having high obesity rates.

"These communities are underprivileged and a lot of time they say they can't afford to go to a gym and pay for a membership. Plus, in New York City a lot of people have stressful jobs and stressful situations so this offers them an outlet," said Harris.
