The Brooklyn Borough President will consider a plan to build a new apartment building would require rezoning Fort Greene.

But some residents are concerned that the new structure would replace the Hanson 7th Day Adventist Church's community building, which dates back to 1860.

The 13-story apartment building would have 32 affordable housing units.

Current zoning restricts buildings to 95 feet.

Residents say they fought hard for that restriction to protect the neighborhood's character.

"It was done exactly because of the possibility of tall buildings coming into a low-rise brownstone neighborhood," said one neighbor.

"We do not want our hard won zoning protections removed," said another.

Supporters of the plan say the new building will help beautify the neighborhood.

Community Board 2 has voted against the plan.

The Borough President wrote a recommendation for the city planning commission after reviewing the proposal.
