NATIONWIDE — Team USA has announced this list of qualifying U.S. Olympic athletes for PyeongChang — 242 athletes, making it the largest Winter Olympic team for any nation in history.

The U.S. holds the record of 222 competitors at the Sochi Olympics, where it sent 230 athletes. Eight qualifiers didn't compete.

Canada is expected to have the second-largest delegation in South Korea with between 220 and 230 athletes.

Skiers Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin and Ted Ligety and snowboarders Shaun White, Kelly Clark and Jamie Anderson, all Olympic champions, are headlining athletes this year.

Star first-time Olympians include figure skater Nathan Chen and snowboarder Chloe Kim.

According to Team USA, of the 10 returning Olympic champions, five are looking to defend their titles from Sochi – Jamie Anderson (snowboarding slopestyle), Maddie Bowman(freestyle skiing halfpipe), Ted Ligety (alpine skiing giant slalom), Mikaela Shiffrin (alpine skiing slalom) and David Wise(freestyle skiing halfpipe).

In PyeongChang, Team USA will be looking for its 100th gold medal (currently stands at 96) and 300th overall medal (currently stands at 284).

The youngest U.S. Olympian is Vincent Zhou (17, figure skating). The oldest, Brian Gionta (39, hockey).
