GATES, N.Y. -- Motel surveillance video shows the last time anyone saw 58-year-old James Shaw alive. Police say he entered a Motel 6 on the day he was killed, along with another man believed to be the suspect.

"We are reaching out to the public in this particular incident to see if anyone would recognize the person walking into the Motel 6 back in 2014 with him on that night in January," said Josh Bowman, an investigator in the Gates Police Department.

The person walking in with Shaw at 1:45 a.m. was then seen leaving alone an hour and a half later and taking off in Shaw's vehicle. The abandoned car was later recovered on Loomis Street in the city. Police say Shaw had been living at the Motel 6 for several weeks prior to his death.

"Mr. Shaw would frequent the now-closed State Street adult book store where he would meet different acquaintances, male acquaintances and on occasion bring them back to the Motel 6 where he was residing," said Bowman.

Police have developed leads over the past four years, but nothing concrete. Investigators say Shaw's family deserves justice.

"They need answers. They've been patient with us and we just want to give them the right answer and someday make an arrest," said Bowman.
