Brooklyn parents who may be concerned their children were exposed to high levels of lead can now get them tested at no charge.

Through the rest of January, Kamin Health Crown Heights Urgent Care Center is teaming up with State Senator Jesse Hamilton, to offer free lead level testing.

The initiative follows a recent report, exposing the city  public housing authority’s failure to conduct lead paint testing in its apartment units.

Children exposed to high levels of lead can suffer a wide variety of health problems, including developmental issues.

Within the last few weeks the center purchased a new machine to facilitate the tests.

"It only takes three minutes to come by, bring your child, get tested have peace of mind knowing that your child can go to school and not not have a low IQ or under perform because of lead paint poisoning," said Senator Hamilton.

In the future, Senator Hamilton and staff at Kamin (COMMON) Health hope to bring free testing to off site locations like schools and youth centers.

In the mean time, lead level testing is offered seven days a week during the center's business hours at 555 Lefferts Avenue in Brooklyn.
