SAN ANTONIO -- With more freezing temperatures this week, SeaWorld San Antonio's rescue team is heading back to North Padre Island to rescue cold-stunned sea turtles.

The turtles have had their core temperature fall so low that their bodies no longer function properly.

Rescuers bring the turtles to a stable environment to regain their strength and then return them when they're healthy. The Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network said more than 2,000 cold-stunned green turtles were documented on the Texas coast in the first week of January.

It is the largest cold-stunning event recorded since 1980.
