Call it grocery shopping with a cause.
Whole Foods will donate five percent of its net sales at its Gowanus and Williamsburg locations Thursday, to Emma's Torch. It's a not for profit cafe in Red Hook that provides culinary training and job placement assistance to refugees and survivors of human trafficking. The Emma’s Torch team will also be on hand at those two stores, to talk to customers about the importance of welcoming refugees, and the incredible and positive impact that refugees have had on our culture and society throughout history. The Red Hook location is a pop- up, the not-for-profit is working towards opening a permanent location in Brooklyn.
