AUSTIN, Texas -- As the Texas March primaries inch closer, Gov. Greg Abbott is taking aim at another Republican House member.

On Tuesday, the governor endorsed Rep. Wayne Faircloth's challenger in the Galveston area primary race.

Gov. Abbott said before the special legislative session this past summer that he would work to unseat incumbents who didn't fully support his agenda. Those with a finger on the pulse of the Republican primaries said the public is now seeing that threat become reality.

Texas Values President Jonathan Saenz said Gov. Abbott is trying to oust any Republican who didn't fully endorse his agenda items like property tax reform or bathroom legislation.

"People are going to have to be vocal, they're going to have to be public, or voters are going to question whether or not they really care about those issues," Saenz said.

The latest announcement comes on the heels of Gov. Abbott's endorsement of Susanna Dokupil. She is challenging Houston Republican incumbent Sarah Davis who grappled with the governor and other conservatives last session.

"Governor Abbott gave people fair notice. And said essentially you're either with me or against me," Saenz said.

Some in the Texas political world wonder if these endorsements are just the beginning.

"Is the governor going to cut a TV ad? Is he going to spend money on behalf of these candidates? Is he going to help them beyond the endorsement," said Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak.

It could signal a shift further to the right in the House if Gov. Abbott gets his way.

"He's only identified two so far that he's going to go against. I predict he will choose a few more," Mackowiak said.
