The Nor'easter is making for a rough go across the city, but the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the transit system is up and running, providing service to the best level that safety limits will allow.

Express subway service has resumed after stopping earlier this morning.

Trains will be taken back underground after Thursday's rush hour to protect them overnight.

Buses have been equipped with all-weather tires or snow chains to protect them from slipping in the snow.

The MTA is expecting a slow day for the most part.

"We will see light ridership all day. Our goal on a day like today is to maintain right level of service so that everybody can move safely through the system. For our motorists, we obviously are advocating caution out there. We'll be monitoring wind gusts all day long and we'll adjust speed and other restrictions accordingly," said MTA Managing Director Ronnie Hakim.

The MTA is asking all motorists to drive slowly when approaching bridges and tunnels.
