HALIFAX, N.C. -- A man charged in connection with the shooting death of a Halifax County child made an appearance in court Wednesday morning.
Malcolm Artis, 22, is charged with multiple felonies including first-degree murder and attempted murder for the Dec. 7 drive-by shooting that left 1-year old Jaxson Clay dead.
The shooting happened in the 700 block of Elm Street.
According to police, Jaxson was inside a home when someone drove by and fired shots at the house.
Authorities said Artis made his way to Georgia after the incident where he was arrested and later extradited back to Halifax County.
In court, Artis was given a court-appointed attorney and his request for bond was denied.
His next court appearance is set for Jan. 17.
