Call it an 'i-Apologize.'

Apple is saying sorry for secretly slowing down older iPhones.

The company says the slowdowns were necessary to avoid unexpected shutdowns related to battery fatigue.

However, many customers are not buying it — with some suggesting it was done to increase demand for newer models.

Apple says it will now cut the price of a battery replacement from $79 to $29.

Starting in late January, anyone with an iPhone 6 or later who needs a new battery can take advantage of the deal.

The company also plans to update its operating system to give users a better understanding of their battery's health.
