A construction worker in Manhattan was killed Monday morning by a falling object, according to the city police department.

Police said they were called to 61 9th Ave. around 8:39 a.m. and, upon arrival, found a man lying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS transported the 34-year-old man to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A source told NY1 that an anchoring bracket, which was used to hold up scaffolding, came loose and fell from just above roof level.

The worker was standing below on a sidewalk shed when he was struck in the head, the source said.

A spokesman for the city buildings department said a full stop-work order has been issued for a project on 15th St., which is next door to our studios in Chelsea.

The buildings department said the tragedy was completely preventable, and the agency is taking enforcement actions against all parties involved.
