The Landmarks Preservation Commission has new designations for a pair of city buildings.

One is the Empire State Dairy complex in East New York.

It was built between 1906 and 1915, along Atlantic and Schenck Avenues.

The site was used for processing milk and making ice cream for decades.

The LPC says the site represents the history of the neighborhood and the milk industry.

The other is the IRT Powerhouse in Hell's Kitchen.

It was built in the early 1900s to power the city's new transit system.

Now called the Consolidated Edison Powerhouse, it takes up the entire block bounded by Eleventh and Twelfth avenues and 58th and 59th streets.

The LPC calls it a monument to the engineers and architects who planned and built the city's first successful subway system.
