HOUSTON -- Hundreds of day laborers have quietly become a crucial part of Texas' recovery from Hurricane Harvey, working long hours in dangerous conditions amidst fears of being rounded up by immigration authorities.

The destruction Harvey left behind created a massive demand for construction laborers. Advocates believe laborers are being exposed to unsafe conditions, and some employers are shorting their wages.

The National Day Labor Organizing Network found that roughly a quarter of more than 350 workers surveyed have been victims of wage theft in the wake of Harvey.
