The FDNY says there were no working smoke detectors when a large fire broke out in a Brooklyn building.

Two people were killed and seven injured — including children.

Emergency crews responded to a three-story building on 11th Avenue near 67th Street in Dyker Heights around 7 a.m. Thursday.

Police say a man and woman in their 50s were found dead in a third floor apartment.

A 4-year-old girl and and 3-month-old boy were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Fire officials say three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

"Flames were shooting out of the back apartment, alongside of where we lived," said one resident. "And they were quite large. You could actually hear it as well as see it. We saw the families that lived in those apartments. They were downstairs. They were in their pajamas, their bare feet."

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the fire started.
