A man has been charged for allegedly stealing valuable first editions of "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" comics Monday in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn district attorney's office said.

It happened around 10:20 p.m. on 86th St. in between 4th and 5th Ave. in Bay Ridge.

Officials said the person who bought the comic books, "Amazing Spider-Man #1" and "Uncanny X-Men #1," was waiting for them to be delivered.

But the package for the comics, which had sat on a stoop at the home, had been cut open, and the books were missing, according to the Brooklyn DA's office.

The DA said the buyer managed to track down the man, Kenneth Gaynor, who allegedly stole the comics, after getting the phone number of someone who was known to be selling two old comic books.

Police said the purchaser set up a meeting and Gaynor had the "Spider-Man" comic when they met but had sold the other comic book earlier in the day.

The "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" comics were worth at least $3,000 and $1,000 each, respectively.

Gaynor has been charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of stolen property.
