The New York City Police Department says its investigation is ongoing after Monday's deadly police-involved shooting.

Investigators say Dwayne Jeune, 32, was shot by officers inside his apartment at the Flatbush Gardens complex Monday afternoon.

Police say Jeune's mother called them to report an emotionally disturbed person in need of help.

When they arrived, he allegedly charged at them with a carving knife.

They say one officer tried to stop him with a taser, but when that didn't work another opened fire.

Jeune's 14-year-old neighbor, Lasaunti Newell, showed NY1 a hole from the stray bullet that she says put her in danger.

"I woke up to the sound of the gunshot like flying through the walls," Newell said.

"It's really devastating to me knowing what could have happened to her," Newell's mother told reporters.

Other residents are concerned police rushed to use deadly force.

"I'm blown away like what happened, what caused it because he's not that type of guy," said one resident.

A knife was recovered at the scene.

NY1 has also learned the officer who shot June was recently involved in another police-involved shooting.
