A 16-month-old girl who authorities say was beaten by her father on Father's Day in Coney Island has died, the hospital she was being treated at said Friday.
Maimonides Medical Center says Nylah Lewis passed away at 10:40 a.m. Friday.
"We at Maimonides Medical Center extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, who wish to have their privacy respected at this sad and difficult time," the hospital said in a statement.
Her teenaged father, 18-year-old Shaquan Taylor, is accused of beating Nylah into a coma on Sunday.
Authorities say Nylah suffered a linear skull fracture and bruises on her face, nose, arms and legs.
Sources say Taylor was watching Nylah at the Coney Island Houses.
Police say the child's mother, 17-year-old Tammy Lewis, found the child unresponsive when she arrived to pick her up and called 911.
Tammy Lewis was also beaten by Taylor, according to police. She was treated for minor injuries.
The Brooklyn district attorney's office says it will look to upgrade the charges against Taylor. He currently faces charges that include assault, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
