Some Brooklyn residents are accusing the owner of a new bar of choosing a racist name.

It's called "Crow Bar," located in Crown Heights off of Franklin Avenue and Union Street.

The bar's owner tells NY1 it's a reference to the neighborhood's former name "Crow Hill." But protesters say the word "crow" is a slur, and the neighborhood name refers to a former prison that held black people.

"He's not welcome in this neighborhood," said Esteban Giron of the Crown Heights Tenants Union. "If you're going to be that arrogant and not listen to the concerns of the community that you're coming into, I don't understand why you would to have an establishment here to begin with."

"There is history of that word being derogatory, so it's not a secret. It's just that people are ignorant and because why? They don't care," said one resident.

"It's insulting, especially to people of color, to have a bar named Crow," said another.

The Crown Heights Tenants Union says it plans to discuss ways to overturn the bar's name at its next meeting.
