Bedford-Stuyvesant residents voiced their concerns about a proposed drop-in center for the homeless at a town hall meeting Monday night.

They met with city officials last night to discuss the plans.

The center would be located on Bedford Avenue and Halsey Street — just three blocks away from the Bedford Armory Shelter.

Officials say the new facility would not function as a shelter, but it would be a safe haven for homeless people to shower and get food and clothing.

The building would also hold 50 beds.

Residents say the community is already doing its part to address homelessness.

"It's not like they're having a smattering of shelters throughout the neighborhood," said one resident. "The shelter is in a concentrated area where there are way too many people who already need services."

"We are adamantly opposed to this idea of putting anymore shelters, drop-in centers, whatever you wanna call them here in our community," said another.

"Communities of political power don't get these kinds of shelters placed in their area," said a third.

The city says the plan is not concrete.
