Prince fans celebrated the late musician's life in Brooklyn Friday night.

They gathered in Fort Greene Park for a dance party with a live DJ spinning Prince records.

The free event, hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, also featured a memorial art exhibit and a nighttime screening of the movie "Purple Rain."

Fans told NY1 why it was important for them to pay tribute to the singer.

"His music always inspired me," said one fan. "I grew up like an ugly duckling, so Prince, Time and Vanity 6, that whole trio just, like, brought me out of my shyness. It helped me to be better around people.

"They all enjoy the language of music," Adams said. "It doesn't matter what language you speak verbally. The language of music breaks through that and forces us to interact with each other."

At a separate event at Prospect Park, fans dressed in Prince-inspired gear and roller-skated to the singer's greatest hits.

The musician was found dead at his Minnesota home last week. He was 57 years old.
