Police are searching for three men who they say shot two men and a young girl in Brooklyn, killing one of the men.

According to police, 53-year-old Michael Matusiak was working at a metal shop around the corner from Knickerbocker Avenue and Grattan Street in East Williamsburg when he and a 57-year-old co-worker spotted three men who looked like they were trying to break into cars.

Police say Matusiak and his co-worker confronted the three other men, and according to police, the three other men fired at Matusiak and his co-worker.

Matusiak died at the scene.

His co-worker was shot and the torso and was grazed in the ear by bullets. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

A 13-year-old girl walking around in the area was also grazed in the hip by a bullet, according to police. She is also in stable condition.

Matusiak's relatives said he had just started at job at the metal shop the day before.

His fiancée, Ivonne Carrasquillo, said the job was a bit of a new beginning for him. Now, she and other relatives are just hoping that the suspects are caught.

"He was so excited he found a job because he had been struggling trying to find a job. And to think that he found a job and on the second day, he gets killed," Carrasquillo said. "When you try to do the right thing for all the right reasons, and that's what road he was on, and I'm really going to miss him a lot."

Matusiak was apparently shot just steps away from his own car, which was towed away from the scene.

Police released surveillance images of two of the three men accused in the incident, which can be seen at left.

The three men are described as in their 20s. Police say one of them was wearing a black sweatshirt, another was wearing all gray and the third was wearing a multi-colored shirt.
