It might be a little chilly, but die-hard Coney Island fans know opening day is this weekend.

New rides are being assembled, and older favorites are getting spruced up for the annual ceremony.

The 1957 favorite "The Scrambler" will be re-introduced to park enthusiasts this beach and boardwalk season. The throwback will have a new home in the adult-ride section of the park.

New rides like a NASCAR-themed racetrack took their first cruise around the block. The Twist and Shout free fall ride is also taking a test drop.

Both rides are making their debut this year, in addition to the Jump Around.

"We have one that's being assembled today that just arrived here from Italy. It's called the Jump Around, which is a pretty cool beach-buggy ride," said Dennis Vourderis, owner of Deno's Wonder Wheel Park. "It simulates kind of an off-road experience for kids. And they can ride with Mom and Dad or Grandma or Grandpa as well, so it adds a little more family atmosphere to the park."

Every ride at the park is getting a necessary test run and upgrade out of the way.

The opening ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
