If you looked up at the Brooklyn Bridge lately, you might have noticed tattered flags flying over both towers.

Blame the relentless, whipping winds.

The Department of Transportation says the flags are going to stay there until the weather improves.

DOT officials say the wind, coupled with ice and snow are making it unsafe for workers to climb up and replace the flags.

Additionally, they say workers have been exceptionally busy this winter, pre-treating and clearing bridges and overpasses.
