A man was struck and killed by a bus in Brooklyn Friday, one of several pedestrian deaths in the city over the last 24 hours, casting a shadow on the mayor's ongoing plan to reduce pedestrian fatalities.

Police say 64-year-old Martin Hernandez Tuffino was walking across Avenue M on a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a bus turning off Coney Island Avenue around 2 p.m. Friday.

Police say the man was stuck under the bus with severe head trauma and died at the scene.

Police are still investigating the crash.

NY1 spoke to people in the neighborhood who often walk by the intersection.

"I walk up and down this street every morning and afternoon coming to and from work, and I've never seen an accident involving a bus or a car or pedestrians," said one person in the neighborhood.

"I walk here every day. Nothing serious," said another. "Like, everybody drives safely."

Two other pedestrians were killed and one was critically injured in separate incidents around the city.

It comes the week the city released borough-by-borough plans to improve safety as part of the mayor's Vision Zero plan.
