SERVES:

approx. two 8-10 ounce servings

INGREDIENTS:

1 large seedless orange, peeled

4-6 sprigs of fresh parsley (optional but good)

1 large quartered apple, stem removed

3 medium large carrots, halved crosswise

1-inch long piece of fresh ginger (a dime or nickel size diameter)

1 medium large beet

PROCEDURE:

A good starter juice, believe it or not, includes sweet red beets and this recipe combines one medium large beet with carrots, apples, some orange and a little zing from a 1-inch long piece of fresh ginger and also a little optional fresh parsley.

The cool thing about this is you don't need to peel any of the vegetables, but you do need to remove the stem from the apple and remove the peel from the orange and, no matter whether or not you're using organic products, you need to wash everything first.

You may be able to place a plastic bag into the waste receptacle for easier clean up and, starting on a lower speed, juice one peeled, segmented orange and add a small handful of parsley if you're using it, then turn the speed up a bit and juice one quartered large apple, 3 halved medium large carrots, add the 1-inch piece of ginger and finish on high speed with one medium large quartered beet.

Beet juice will stain anything that it comes into contact with so you want to be careful about that and then, serve it right away to gain maximum nutritional value.

HINTS:

Probably the most common type of juicer is one that uses centrifugal force to remove the juice from the vegetables by forcing the juice through a mesh filter and, often times, these have varying speeds for different types of fruits or vegetables.
