GREECE, N.Y. — A guilty plea by a man charged in connection with a 2016 home invasion is sending him to prison.

A judge sentenced Omar Quarles to 20 years, plus five years of post-release supervision.

He pleaded guilty in November to first-degree manslaughter and burglary.

Greece police say they discovered 86-year-old Charles Fields semi-conscious after an apparent home invasion burglary on October 8 at his home on Maiden Lane.

They were originally called to check on his welfare.

Fields was hospitalized and later died from his injuries.

Police say Quarles was known to be a family friend of Fields.
