A city bus driver has been charged after fatally striking a pedestrian Wednesday night in Brooklyn.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the accident happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bensonhurst.

Authorities say a B6 bus driven by Audley Smith, 62, was traveling on Bay Parkway when he struck Yu Qing Chen, 81 of Brooklyn, as she was walking in a marked crosswalk at the Bay Ridge Parkway intersection.

The victim was transported Maimonides Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Police say Smith is charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
