An off-duty Long Island police officer was shot Saturday morning following a minor traffic accident in the Bronx.

Sources say the officer was rear ended near Sedgwick Avenue and Hall of Fame Terrace in University Heights.

The officer got out of his car, according to sources, and sources say the people who rear ended him did as well.

That's when sources say another car rolled up, and the off-duty officer was beaten, and shots were fired.

The second car then sped off, sources say.

Sources say the officer was taken to the hospital with a leg wound, and that two other men were treated at a different hospital.

The NYPD says this was not a police-related incident.
