The Bronx will soon be booming with new affordable housing and community space.

Local lawmakers and developers broke ground on two new mixed income buildings in Melrose Friday. The buildings are along Brook Avenue and East 152nd Street. “La Central” will have nearly 500 affordable units.

There will also be a new YMCA, retail space and rooftop gardens with solar panels to provide power.

"This is about presenting future generations of the Bronx with something classy,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

People will begin moving in in 2020.
