HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. — Tajiri the giraffe celebrated his first birthday with his parents April and Oliver at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville Sunday.

Thousands of fans also tuned in to the 'giraffe cam' online.

Tajiri was surprised with a special ‘giraffe-edible’ cake and decorations, and his parents also enjoyed some carrots and lettuce.

The park owner says everyone loves baby animals, but this past year has been a whirlwind with this famous giraffe family.

April’s famous pregnancy brought in 200,000 people from all over, and allowed them to expand the park and programming.

"In a larger scale, we've been able to really emphasize giraffes and their need for conservation," said Jordan Patch, the Animal Adventure Park owner. "The giraffe cam, it still rolls every day, but really what we're doing is continuing to press that awareness to lead toward those conservation efforts."

Tajiri will stay for the 2018 season, but the owner says they have to decide whether he will stay at the park or move to another location to breed.

Animal Adventure Park is expected to open for the season on May 16.
