A Bronx native is making a final push to bring a book festival to the borough.

Saraciea Fennell has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to raise $30,000 to host the Bronx Book Festival in Fordham Plaza this May.

She says she knows firsthand reading is not prioritized in some neighborhoods and hopes a festival will inspire the borough's youth to fall in love with books and learning.

"People who look like me if they realize, oh, people who look like me are writing books, people who look like me are working in publishing, why can't I do that," said Fennell.

Her fundraiser has already raised more than $24,000. The campaign ends on April 13th.
