Veterans in the Bronx are turning to the community to help save their post.

The roof of the Samuel H. Young American Legion Post number 6-20, is in dire need of repairs.

The building was constructed back in 1948 and has not had any major renovations done since.

Members of the post have made temporary repairs, but now, they say, the three layer roof needs to be completely replaced.

Estimated cost of the work is more than twenty thousand dollars.

With a decline in membership and low cost of yearly dues, members say they're having trouble coming up with the funds to cover the cost.

"We have leaks in the kitchen, in fact we had to disassemble and tear the kitchen out completely because of leaks. So we are in desperate need of a roof," said Bill Franklin, Post Vice Commander, American Legion Post #620.

The Legion is asking anyone willing to donate supplies and/or manual labor to call the post at 718-822-8873.
