Staten Islanders got a lesson in science and technology Sunday all while having fun.

Families attended the Con Edison Family Day for Wearable Electronics, where they got to create technology they can wear. The free workshop took place at Staten Island MakerSpace, a community center in Stapleton.

At the event, families got to make electronic accessories, including bracelets and tote bags that light up.

Organizers said they hoped the workshop draws children to what's called STEM, the science, technology, engineering, and math fields.

"STEM is something that sometimes has been overlooked. So we're trying to really bridge that gap and make sure that kids are engaged early on," said an organizer.

The next Con Edison workshop at MakerSpace will be Sunday, March 18. At that event, kids will make their own Hula hoops with the same goal of showing them that learning about these subjects can be fun.
