Paying with plastic could get a lot easier at some city businesses if one local lawmaker gets his way.

City Council member Ritchie Torres is pushing a bill to cap credit card minimums at $10.

Some shops around the city require spending up to $20 in order to use your card.

Torres says bars are often the worst offenders.

"The point here is, consumption is what drives the New York City economy. Our objective is to make it easier for people to consume goods and services with credit cards, and we're living in an age where there's a growing reliance on credit cards as the main form of transaction," Torres said.

Businesses often impose a minimum because it costs them money to accept credit or debit cards.

The proposed law would still allow shops to deny cards altogether in favor of cash.
