NORTH CAROLINA -- A Vietnam-era census rule is now overturned.

Starting April 1, 2020, deployed service members will be counted on the census based on their current place of residence and not where they enlisted.

In the 2010 Census, nearly 35,000 were left out as residents of North Carolina.

The City of Jacksonville estimates 20,000 service members were left out on the Census for their community.

City officials say this new rule will greatly benefit military communities seeking business opportunities and state and federal funds.
