Local boy scout groups are trying to distance themselves from a scout leader and a volunteer who were arrested in a heroin bust on Staten Island last week.

Detectives say an investigation into an overdose death led them to Alan Soler, a troop dad, and Kevin Saunders, a troop leader.

Police recovered almost 300 envelopes of heroin, guns and drug paraphernalia at Soler's in New Brighton.

Both now face several charges including narcotics possession.

The State Council of Boy Scouts says Soler never officially attended Scout functions and was not registered with the organization.

He has been placed on a list of ineligible volunteers, while Saunders has been banned from participating in Boy Scouts programs.
