SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio family said their disabled son is no longer allowed to use his walking device at a Judson ISD school.

The family created a Facebook page over the weekend, Ryan’s Avengers, to help their son who they claim is being denied rights by the school’s attorney. According to the family, the attorney for Judson ISD said Ryan’s device is “not safe.”

Ryan has been using the device at school since 2008, states the Facebook page. The family believes this is blatant bullying and harassing of their son after numerous letters have been sent to the school district confirming the safety of the device by Ryan’s orthotist doctor.

The TAOS device Ryan uses helps get him out of the wheelchair that he has been confined to since he was born.

“Walking is a source of mental and emotional joy for Ryan,” states the Facebook page.

Beyond the psychological benefits, walking has health benefits for Ryan, according to the family. His TOAS device prevents muscle atrophy and the formation of bed sores from sitting in a wheelchair all day.

The family is calling on social media to help them fight the school district to “let Ryan walk.”
