Wintry precipitation is spreading across North Carolina this Wednesday morning. For much of the Piedmont including the Triangle, the precipitation will fall as all snow through the day. A brief period of rain in the Sandhills will change to all snow through the midday hours

Heavy bands of snow across the region through Wednesday afternoon produced snow totals six to eight inches with some locally higher amounts.

Other locations in central North Carolina saw anywhere from two to five inches with little or no snow across much of the Sandhills.

The snow will taper off from west to east overnight, then with clearing skies temperatures will drop to the teens by early Thursday morning.

Due to the temperatures well below freezing overnight, dangerous road conditions are likely through the Thursday morning commute.  Sunshine on Thursday will allow temperatures to warm to near or above freezing by 11 a.m. Afternoon highs Thursday should top out in the upper 30s to near 40.
