National Fuel is asking customers in Western New York to turn down their thermostats by five degrees.

It affects customers in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties.

National Fuel says there's been an interruption at a transmission facility, and in order to continue delivering gas to all of its customers, it needs everyone to pitch in by turning back their thermostats.

They are advising customers who are elderly or ill to make sure they maintain a temperature that is comfortable and won’t affect their health.

This takes effect immediately, and should continue until further notice.
