NEW YORK - New York Rangers player Chris Kreider is being taken off the ice indefinitely.

The team announced Thursday the 26-year-old forward has a blood clot in his right arm.

It's not clear when he will be able to return, but this comes just a few days before the Rangers take on the Buffalo Sabres in the Winter Classic at Citi Field.

Kreider signed with the Blueshirts in 2012, and extended his contract last year.

He holds the record for most NHL playoff goals before playing in a regular season.
