Police say the Animal Cruelty squad is investigating the case of a dog found abandoned on a highway in Brooklyn.

The animal rescue group, the New York Bully Crew, said police received a call about a moving plastic bag on the Jackie Robinson Parkway on Tuesday night.

When officers arrived, they discovered the dog in the plastic bag wearing a muzzle, and rushed the dog to the hospital.

The rescue team says the shepherd mix, named Saint Vincent, was rushed to the hospital and survived emergency surgery and is recovering at the Verg Animal Shelter.

A member of an animal rescue organization said they hope the NYPD can find who committed this act of cruelty.

It is not clear for how long the dog was left on the highway.
