SAN MARCOS, Texas – A San Marcos man has been sentenced to more than 1,000 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two family members for years.

Robert Benjamin Franks, 39, was convicted on Nov. 28 of continuous sexual abuse, aggravated sexual assault of a child, and indecency with a child. Court records said that Franks sexually abused two children over several years.

The victims were a 9- and 10-year-old living with Franks. Both of the children were given Sexual Assault Nursing Exams confirming the abuse.

Franks was also charged with six counts of indecency with a child and nine counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The trial began Nov. 13 and ended Nov. 27. It only took an hour for the jury to deliberate and reach a guilty verdict on all 17 counts against Franks.

Sentenced in relation to the charges connected to both children, Franks was given 99-year sentences for each of the nine counts of aggravated sexual assault in addition to 20 years for each of the six counts of indecency with a child.

“Words cannot really express the depth of the betrayal and outrage warranted by conduct like this, committed by a man who should have been caring for and protecting these children,” Hays County District Attorney Wes Mau said. “The jury’s sentence speaks more eloquently than I can to make clear how our community feels about crimes like these.”
