NEW YORK -- Military Veterans struggling with PTSD can now apply for medical marijuana in New York State.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement on Veterans Day as he thanked vets for their service.

"This country is not this country without the work of the veterans. And their sacrifice and their courage is the highest form of patriotism,” said Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Veterans with PTSD will have to get authorization from a doctor in order to receive medical marijuana. The state already allows its use to treat other conditions.

Cuomo believes adding PTSD to the list will help thousands of veterans.
