NEW YORK - A wild scene in Lower Manhattan was caught on video after an alleged taxi thief jumped into the Hudson River in an attempt to evade police.

Police say they were trailing the man near River Terrace and Warren Street in Battery Park City around 9 a.m.

That's when they say he hopped out of the stolen cab, made his way towards the Hudson and jumped in.

He was rescued by the crew on a New York Waterway ferry after they saw him leap from the seawall.

The company says two deckhands dropped a rope ladder, pulled the man up, then handed him over to police.
