A humble response from the police officer who took down Sayfullo Saipov.

He's downplaying his role on Tuesday, saying he was just doing his job.

28-year-old Ryan Nash was one of four responding officers who arrived at the scene after Saipov's rampage.

He shot the suspect in the torso after he took out a paintball gun and a BB gun.

"Although I feel that we were just doing our jobs like thousands of officers do every day, I understand the importance of yesterday's events and the role we played," Nash said. "And I'm thankful for the recognition that we have received. i just want to thank my family and friends for their support and all the officers that assisted me."

Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio had high praise for Nash and the NYPD.

"He was a hero," said Cuomo. "The NYPD is not just the leadership, it's the men and women who are out there every day."

"The NYPD yesterday showed us once again how much New Yorkers can rely on them," said de Blasio.

Nash has been on the job for five years.

He is assigned to the first precinct.
