NEW YORK - A Bronx man has been arrested after federal investigators say he tried to aid the Islamic State group.

The U.S. Attorney's office says Saddam Mohamed Raishani, 30, was taken into custody Wednesday while trying to board a plane to Syria at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Investigators say Raishani wanted to join the militant group after helping another man get there.

Raishani is expected to appear Thursday in Manhattan federal court.

Authorities say his plans were foiled because he unwittingly contacted a person who was a confidential source working at the direction of law enforcement.

That person, authorities say, introduced him to an undercover law enforcement officer who posed as someone who also wanted to fight for the Islamic State group.
