A Bronx EMT who was killed in the line of duty in March was honored Friday at the hospital where she once worked.
A plaque that bears Yadira Arroyo's name now hangs at St. Barnabas Hospital in Belmont.
"Her mother used to work here. It's just an honor for us," Ali Acevedo-Hernandez, Arroyo's aunt, said at the hospital.
Arroyo, 44, died while responding to a call in Soundview on March 17.
Police say Jose Gonzalez, 25, stole her ambulance and ran over her.
Arroyo was a 14-year veteran of the department, and mother of five.
Family members said she was dedicated to helping others.
"It's a confirmation of the type of person that she really was," Acevedo-Hernandez said. "She'll always be in our heart. We will always remember her."
"I always think of Yady and me having conversations. I always think of her beautiful spirit. We were both Capricorns, we talked about our birthdays; they weren't far apart from each other," colleague Darshel Ray said. "I always will remember her."
Gonzalez is being charged with murder and robbery. His lawyers say he has a history of mental illness.
Gonzalez is due back in court in August.
