A whale that was stranded on the Bronx coast suffered from pneumonia, according to a necropsy performed Monday.
The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society says the whale was also deemed to have suffered significant weight loss.
The 10-foot whale washed up at Orchard Beach around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police, the Parks Department, and marine life experts worked for several hours to try to save the animal, but it was eventually euthanized.
The necropsy was performed at the Bronx Zoo.
